College of St. Joseph's baseball team defeated Great Bay Community College 3-2 on Saturday, April 6. The game was originally scheduled as a home contest but had to be played at GBCC due to field conditions.
The Fighting Saints got on the scoreboard early with a run in the top of the first inning. GBCC did not respond in the bottom of the inning, and CSJ capitalized by scoring another run in the top of the second frame.
The Herons scored their first run in the bottom of the third inning to make the game 2-1. Innings 4, 5, 6 and 7 went scoreless before each team scored a run in the eighth inning.
Kyle Gould led the Fighting Saints offensively with 2 hits, 1 RBI and 1 run. Joe Ruby had 1 hit, 1 run and Tristen Ciarlo notched 1 run. Justin Holmberg threw a complete game to earn the win on the mound. The Herons got 5 hits from 5 separate players. GBCC's Aaron Pomeroy took the loss on the mound.
CSJ improved to 8-7 on the year with the victory. GBCC dropped to 5-5. The Saints went on to face Fisher College in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 7. Read a full recap of the game here.
