College of St. Joseph's women's basketball team takes on Northern Vermont University (NVU) - Lyndon in the Northern University Classic on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 5pm. NVU's Johnson campus is hosting the tournament. The Fighting Saints will face NVU-Johnson on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7pm in the second game of the tournament.
Thursday's matchup marks the Lyndon Hornets' first game of the season. CSJ is one game into their season, having lost to the University of Maine Machias 55-69 on Sunday.
The Fighting Saints were 11-13 overall in the 2017-18 season. Lyndon posted a 14-12 record last year. The Hornets took on Vermont Technical College (VTC) last season and recorded a 59-45 win on Jan. 27. The Fighting Saints also took on VTC last season and won 77-64 on Jan. 24.
Both squads also faced off against Johnson State. On Nov. 15, 2017, CSJ defeated Johnson 87-58. Returning players NaKeeya Goodman-Boddie and Daija Black were leading scorers with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Rachel Bruneel posted nine points, seven rebounds in the victory.
On Jan. 9, Lyndon took down Johnson 75-23 at home. Returner Victoria Carlson recorded six points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Center forward Alisha Celley pulled down eight rebounds and recorded four points, three steals, two assists and one block. Carlson, Celley and Faith Poirier are the Hornets' three returning starters. In a match-up later that month, Lyndon defeated Johnson 59-45. Poirier had 13 points, including three 3-pointers.
