Saints hope to slay Knights

College of St. Joseph's women's basketball team (10-12) takes on Vermont Technical College (7-20) in Randolph on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Saints performed well in two games over the weekend and will look to close out their regular season with a win.

In the teams' first match-up on Jan. 24, CSJ earned a 77-64 win. The Knights stayed within six points of the Lady Saints throughout the first half, but a 24-17 advantage in the third quarter propelled CSJ to victory. Both teams found themselves prone to turning the ball over, but VTC committed 33 to CSJ's 26. CSJ also outrebounded VTC, 45-39.

Daija Black executed an all around stellar game for the Saints. She recorded 20 points, nine steals, seven assist and five rebounds. She shot 4-5 from the foul line and 8-17 from the field. Aliesha Thomas, the team's leading scorer at 12.9 points per game, netted 13 points against VTC and pulled down a career high 12 rebounds for her first career double-double. She also contributed five assists and five steals.

Freshman Arielys Rodriguez put up eight points, including two 3-pointers. Classmates Crisalida Chaplin and Tatasiana Cheatham notched seven and six points, respectively.

Mariah Rilling shot 4-5 from 3-point range and 9-17 from the field to lead the Knights with 24 points. She also tallied five rebounds, five steals and four assists. Rilling is VTC's leading scorer overall, averaging 13.3 PPG. Kiana Royer scored nine points against the Fighting Saints and recorded four assists. Power forward Madalyn Leggett had 14 rebounds, seven blocks, four assists and two steals. She averages 8.6 rebounds per game and 7.2 PPG.
