College of St. Joseph's softball team will face Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) rival New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) in a doubleheader on Friday, April 27 at 3:30 p.m., weather permitting.
NHTI is 23-5 on the year and 6-0 in YSCC play. The Lady Saints are 3-1 in the YSCC and 14-16 overall. The squads split two contests during the YSCC Fall Ball Tournament, with CSJ taking the first game 3-1 and the Lynx closely winning the second 6-5.
In the Saints' 3-1 win on Sept. 16, first-year player McKenzie Ebert pitched a six-hitter for her first career win. Classmate Vanessa Quigley led the offense with two hits, two RBIs. Shelby Fenton hit a double, while Arielys Rodriguez, Jenna Crowley, Lena Tirotta and Ashley Vasas also provided hits in the contest.
The second game, a 6-5 loss for the Saints, was abundant with hits for both teams. NHTI tallied 13 and CSJ had 10. CSJ had a 2-0 lead after four innings, but the Lyx put up six runs in the fifth to take the lead.
The Lady Saints clawed back into the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one in the bottom of the seventh, but their efforts to rally were not rewarded with a victory. Ebert took the loss on the mound. Tirotta hit her first career home run in the seventh inning. She finished with two hits, as did Quigley and Rodriguez.
