College of St. Joseph's softball team defeated SUNY Delhi 7-6 and 14-6 on Tuesday, April 24.
The Lady Saints got off to a slow start against the now 0-25 Broncos. Game one was tied at two after four innings, and Delhi took a 6-4 lead after the fifth. CSJ remained composed and put two runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game. Timell Montgomery and McKenzie Ebert recorded an RBI apiece during the inning.
A wild pitch in the seventh inning allowed Arielys Rodriguez to score the game-winning run for the Lady Saints. CSJ notched 15 hits to Delhi's six, but struggled to get base runners across home plate throughout game one.
Rodriguez led CSJ offensively with three hits, two RBI and a run. Ebert also shined at the plate, as she also recorded three hits and two RBI. Montgomery scored two runs and recorded one hit and a RBI. Kali Drum recorded one hit, one RBI and one run.
Senior captain Jenna Crowley threw the first five innings of the game. She struck out five and allowed five hits and five runs. Ebert played the final two innings on the mound. She struck out three and gave up one hit to earn the win.
In game two, CSJ came out of the dugout with a chip on their shoulder. The Lady Saints scored eight runs and recorded eight hits in the opening inning. A Lena Tirotta single scored the first two runs of the game. Montgomery's single two batters late scored Sierra Jaeger, who reached base on a fielder's choice, and Tirotta to give the Saints a 4-0 lead.
Drum singled to left field and allowed Montgomery to score the fifth run of the game. Rodriguez notched the next single, and her hit allowed Drum and Katie Jenkins to make the game 7-0. To finish of CSJ's turn at the plate in the first inning, Vanessa Quigley hit a single to second base that sent Rodriguez home.
Delhi put up two runs in the bottom of the first. CSJ notched five runs in the fourth and the Broncos recorded four. One more run by the Lady Saints in the fifth inning capped the game at 14-6.
Tirotta scored three runs and tallied two RBI off one hit. Rodriguez finished with two hits, two runs and two RBI. Montgomery recorded four RBI, two runs and a hit and Drum notched two hits, two runs and two RBI. Senior captain Shelby Fenton threw a complete game to earn the victory on the mound.
