College of St. Joseph's men's basketball team fell 82-72 to Bryant & Stratton Buffalo (13-5) on Jan. 18 and 107-86 to Villa Maria College (18-1) on Jan. 19. Charles Isaac Jr. averaged 24.5 points per game while on the road.
In the first contest, which was the Saints' second game in two days, CSJ trailed 37-27 at halftime. Mickalous Snowden had 13 points and three 3-pointers in the first half against Bryant & Stratton. Nicc Johnson had 15 points for the Bobcats by halftime. Both teams struggled to convert shots. CSJ shot 31 percent from the field in the first half and the Bobcats shot 39.5 percent.
Both teams notched 45 points apiece in the second frame of play. Isaac had 15 points, 5 rebounds in the half and Snowden had 11 points, 3 rebounds. Bryan Nunez had 8 points for the Saints. Tyrell Mitchell scored 12 points for the Bobcats. Bryant & Stratton improved their shooting to 45.5 percent in the second half of play, and CSJ improved to 41.2 percent.
The Bobcats won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding CSJ 56-35. Bryant & Stratton had 18 second-chance points to CSJ's 12. The Fighting Saints forced 19 Bobcat turnovers, while committing just 10 of their own. CSJ scored 14 points off turnovers to the Bobcats' 10 points off turnovers.
Snowden scored a game-high 24 points and had 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Isaac recorded 22 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and Nunez had 8 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds. Bryant & Stratton was led by Johnson with 22 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Jeru Molson and Damone Brown pulled down 10 rebounds apiece for the Bobcats.
Game two in Buffalo against Villa Maria represented CSJ's third game in three days. The Fighting Saints forced 21 Villa Maria turnovers, but could not keep up with the Vikings' 53 percent shooting from the field. CSJ scored 22 points off turnovers to Villa's 10 points off turnovers. The Vikings dominated the paint, scoring 23 second chance points to CSJ's 4 second chance points.
Isaac led all scorers with 27 points, while also notching 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Nunez scored 19 points off the bench for CSJ and had 3 assists. Snowden recorded 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals and Deron Walter recorded 11 points. Lonnie Taylor led Villa with 23 points, 15 rebounds. Three players scored 18 points for the Vikings: Dominic Douglas, Gerald Bibbs, and DeJaun Owens.
The Fighting Saints (5-16) play next on Thursday, Jan. 24 at NHTI at 7:30 pm.
