Mickalous Snowden has been selected by College of St. Joseph as male Athlete of the Week for Week 8, the final week of the winter sports season. Mickalous, a sophomore from Fitchburg, Mass., kept the Fighting Saints afloat in two games over the past week, scoring a total of 16 3-pointers and 56 points. On Saturday, Feb. 10 in a game against UMaine-Presque Isle, Snowden netted a season-high 28 points off 10-19 shooting from the field and 7-15 shooting from beyond the 3-point line. He also went 1-1 from the foul line. Snowden was able to shoot a last-second 3-pointer from near half court, but the nearly impossible shot was off the mark and the Saints fell 83-82 to the Owls. On Tuesday, Feb. 13 against Vermont Technical College, Mickalous upped his previous game-high of seven threes and scored eight in a narrow 79-75 loss. He scored 25 points off 8-15 shooting from beyond the arc and also contributed two rebounds, two steals and one assist, which came at the end of the game when CSJ made a run to tie the game. Snowden also scored one three in a contest against UMaine-Fort Kent on Feb. 11. Mickalous is CSJ's leading long-range shooter, boasting a 36.2 shooting percentage from downtown. He has converted a team-high 67 baskets from 3-point range and is third in points per game with 10.4. The Fighting Saints will rely heavily on Mickalous' hot hand on Friday, Feb. 23 when they face Villa Maria College in the Northeast Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs.
