College of St. Joseph's men's basketball team plays its second game in as many days on Saturday, Jan. 13 against Villa Maria College. The game will be hosted by Southern Vermont College at 6:00 p.m.
CSJ and Villa have matched up against three common opponents. On Nov. 10, the Vikings faced SUNY Delhi and wom 86-81. CSJ fell at Delhi on Dec. 5, 83-77. Villa defeated Fisher College on Nov. 11 to the tune of 66-60. Lonnie Taylor scored 15 points and pulled down 17 rebounds for the Vikings, and Dominic Douglas scored 17 points. The Fighting Saints faced Fisher on Nov. 29 and fell 100-88. Charles Isaac went off for 26 points and 10 rebounds in the contest.
The Vikings are led offensively by DeJaun Owens. Owens averages 17.1 points per game backed by 45 percent shooting from the 3-point line. He lead the Vikings overwhelmingly with 57 made 3-pointers this season. Douglas is second on the team with 15.5 PPG, while also averaging 6.1 rebounds. Lonnie averages close to a double-double, with 11.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Jay Scarbrough rounds out the double-digit scorers for Villa, averaging 11.1 points and 3.4 assists per game.
Isaac leads CSJ's offense with 12.8 points per game off of 44.5 percent shooting from the field. He leads CSJ in rebounds per game (5.2) as well. Isaac also averages two assists and 1.2 steals per game. Tyreke Woodard is second in scoring, currently averaging 11.4 PPG. He also contributes 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game on average. Trent Torain rounds out the Fighting Saints who average double digits, with 11.3 PPG. Torain is second on the team in rebounding, averaging 4.8 a game.
