On Friday, Jan. 12, College of St. Joseph's men's basketball team will take on the University of Maine at Fort Kent in a 6:30 p.m. contest. The game will be played at Green Mountain College due to gym repairs at CSJ.
Senior guard Anthony Knight leads the Bengals in scoring, averaging 18.1 points per game. Three Fort Kent players average in the nine point range: guard Troy Williams (9.7 PPG), center Thomas Enerva (9.7 PPG), forward Travis Harlin (9.6 PPG) and guard Thomas Caldwell (9.1 PPG). Point guard Bobby Syvanthong averages 5.2 assists per game and 6.4 rebounds. Enerva averages a team-leading 7.3 rebounds per game and Knight records 6.2 a game on average.
For the Fighting Saints, Charles Isaac leads the offense with 12.8 points per game off of 44.5 percent shooting from the field. He leads CSJ in rebounds per game, with 5.2, as well. Isaac also averages two assists and 1.2 steals per game. Tyreke Woodard is currently averaging 11.4 PPG, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Trent Torain rounds out the Fighting Saints who average double digits, with 11.3 PPG. Torain is second on the team in rebounding, averaging 4.8 a game.
The two squads have not yet faced one another this season, though they have matched up with three common opponents. In their first game of the year on Nov. 5, the Fighting Saints played the University of Maine - Augusta to a 90-90 draw at the end of regulation time. The Moose ultimately came out with a 99-95 overtime win over CSJ. On Nov. 12, Fort Kent defeated Augusta 104-94.
On Nov. 21, the Bengals captured a 75-74 win in Delhi, N.Y. The Fighting Saints led most of the game during their first stint against the SUNY Delhi Broncos, but were handed a 83-77 loss at Delhi on Dec. 5. On Jan. 10, the Broncos took down CSJ 100-58. Fort Kent defeated the University of Maine - Machias 83-63 on Dec. 5. The Fighting Saints lost 77-74 to Machias in the final minutes of a game played in Maine on Dec. 3.
